Here at the Aga Shop, Cobham, we share a large inspirational showroom with Fired Earth. We have a fantastic display of Aga and Rayburn cookers, the Aga Refrigerator, as well as items from the Aga Cook Shop collection. We regularly hold themed Demonstrations, and always get a great response to both our introduction and more advanced cookery classes. We are a very child friendly showroom and have safe areas for children to play and we have held children’s Demonstrations which teach how to bake and cook fun meals on the Aga. We regularly stage specific open days, including the successful Homes & Gardens event held in spring this year. We have free and adequate allocated parking outside the premises and are conveniently located a short distance from both the M25 and A3. Please feel free to contact us for any further information or visit the showroom where a member of our staff will enjoy meeting and helping you.

EVENT NEWS

Celebrating fine British foods

The Local Life campaign recently came to the Aga Shop Cobham, where we celebrated the best in British foods.  Visitors enjoyed a day of delicious food and demonstrations, as James McIntosh prepared and cooked a variety of tasty dishes.

Anila of her own company Anila's Sauces, treated everyone to a fantastic demonstration on how to make authentic chappatis and popadoms. This went down a storm - especially when she cooked them on the Aga! Anila was also kind enough to bring along a variety of her fragrant, curry sauces, pickles and chutneys to use in our cookery demonstrations and to sell to our customers.

James McIntosh hosted a demonstration, using fine British, and local ingredients. Loch Fyne restaurants (a devoted specialist of sustainably sourced British fish and seafood) supplied us with king prawns, smoked haddock and cod. These formed fantastic base ingredients in many of James' dishes. Anila and James were soon joining forces and kept our customers very entertained as they cooked up a truely delicious vegetable curry!

Here is an exert by Kamala from TradeRoot's review of a recent event in their March/April issue:

"Why you should attend an AGA demonstration

Earlier this year I attended an Aga demonstration – “Introduction to Aga Cooking with Marcia Poole”.  I went along expecting to learn a few things but came away astounded with what I had learnt, even though I have been using our “inherited” AGA for a number of years.

Marcia is a true AGA lover.  If you move into her neighbourhood the chances of your being converted to the AGA lifestyle are extremely high.

The demonstration started at 11.30, leaving me with enough time to do the school run, get a few chores done and then head off to Cobham, missing the morning rush hour traffic.  My journey from Reigate took only 22 minutes door to door.

The demonstration was attended mainly by women but there were also some men who were very keen to learn how to use their new gleaming metallic beasts.   The participants ranged from people who had just bought homes with an AGA already installed, people who had just ordered an AGA and people, who like me, had owned an AGA for a while.

The demonstration began with an explanation of the different types of AGA and how they worked.  The care and cleaning of the AGA was also discussed and I discovered the AGA cleaners that are available.  My long suffering AGA now looks almost as shiny as the ones in the shop.

Marcia then took us through a day with an Aga, starting with the kettle and that all important brew first thing in the morning.  Useful tips included advice on the best type of kettle and how to use and care for your kettle, especially if you live in a hard water area.  The AGA toaster was next, producing the perfect piece of toast, crunchy on the outside but soft in the middle.  Next was the cooked breakfast made in the oven, with the added advantages of averting cooking smells and not having to stand over the cooking meal as this method is more forgiving.

Then an introduction to a fabulous product, Bake-o-glide, which can be used straight on the simmering plate or to line your cookware – this stuff is magical – it is dishwasher proof and can be reused time and time again; Marcia has had hers for 15 years.  She made a fat free “fried” egg and a toasted cheese sandwich using the Bake-o-glide on the simmering plate.

Marcia then went on to produce a magnificent meal, some of which had been started off before our arrival.  A succulent roast chicken, chilli con carne with rice (cooked to perfection in the oven), meringues, a bread & butter pudding, cauliflower cheese, sweet potatoes, a fruit crumble and a stilton quiche.

I was amazed when Marcia cooked pancakes, straight onto the simmering plate, with just a dab of oil on a paper kitchen towel.  This was one of the first things that I tried at home as, even though I had seen it with my own eyes, I could not believe that the pancakes would not stick.  Marcia’s tip was to add a bit of oil to the batter.  It certainly worked a treat.  No more frying pans to wash up!

I could not believe just how many dishes could be stacked up in the ovens.  I came away from the AGA shop with a new set of stainless steel casserole dishes.  The knobs are sunken into the lids, making stacking possible and as the lids fit on tight, less liquid is required for cooking.  Marcia suggested that where a recipe called for a glass of wine, to drink it!

I am happy to report that at the end of the demonstration we all got to eat the delicious food effortlessly prepared by Marcia.    I was not expecting to get lunch and returned to Reigate, stuffed to the brim with good food and the enthusiasm to get cooking.

I made a quiche, something that I have never attempted before, but as Marcia made it look very simple I thought I would give it a try.  The tip here is to cook the quiche straight on to the floor of the oven so that the pastry is cooked right through, with no soggy bottoms!  I am pleased to say that my rather fussy family gave the quiche a rating of 9 out of 10, holding back full marks as I had made the pastry a bit too thick for their taste.

I have also made apple crumble, a prawn stir fry, bread & butter pudding, a pineapple upside down cake and a beef in beer casserole that was slow cooked, enabling me to make a trip to Heathrow to pick up my sister and then have a meal on the table within half an hour of getting back to the house, which for me, as those who know me well will tell you, is a remarkable feat.

Whether you are planning to get a new cooker or already own an AGA, I would urge you to attend one of the demonstrations.  My family have gained from my increased confidence in trying out new recipes, all cooked from scratch with fresh ingredients and with no unnecessary additives.  Marcia made cooking on the AGA a very relaxing experience."
